Freedom Lessons : Learn to Live Free

For Liberty!---and occasional levity Freedom Lessons is a meeting place to learn from and equip one another as we persuade others to embrace individual freedom. The goal? A lasting cultural preference for freedom, limited government, free markets, respect for the Constitution and rule of law, and a more sensible and strong national defense.  That's all.

The task we take very seriously.  Ourselves, well, not so much...

Economics In One Lesson
By Henry Hazlitt
ISBN: 0-517-54823-2

Economics In One Lesson offers a concise statement in the first principles of economics and their real life effects when applied through government policy.  Hazlitt reminds us of the unintended consequences of denying or forgetting those same principles.

Hazlitt explains in everyday language how these basic principles operate in real life.  Like other good economists, he writes for the common reader, leaving out graphs, statistical tables, and complex equations.  Hazlitt gets right to the rub with the first sentence of the book: "Economics is haunted by more fallacies than any other study known to man."  He then proceeds to guide the reader through recurring economics issues including minimum wage laws, price fixing, inflation, so-called government stimulation of the economy, and government interference in general.

Hazlitt is a good teacher and clear writer.  He uses age-old economic fallacies and their supporting government policies that have plagued free markets as teaching opportunities, uncovering the light of real-life history and the first principles of freedom in the marketplace along the way.
