Freedom Lessons : Learn to Live Free

For Liberty!---and occasional levity Freedom Lessons is a meeting place to learn from and equip one another as we persuade others to embrace individual freedom. The goal? A lasting cultural preference for freedom, limited government, free markets, respect for the Constitution and rule of law, and a more sensible and strong national defense.  That's all.

The task we take very seriously.  Ourselves, well, not so much...

The American story is peculiar.  World history is not a story of freedom, and Americans have always been the freest people in the world.  Freedom is part of our DNA, no matter what the behavior of government.  Individual freedom and freedom in the market have provided unparalleled living standards, leisure to flourish the arts and living interests, and the opportunity for millions to chart out their own destinies.  Here, we do not exist for sake of The State and its insatiable appetite to lord over men.

Or do we?

Freedom Lessons is dedicated to contributing to a revival of the spirit and idea of liberty.  It's there; it just needs woken up, revived, and re-embraced.  (And no more naps!)  An abiding cultural preference for individual freedom is the goal. We acknowledge none but a free society "works" for mankind.  We've tried and keep trying the European authoritarian welfare state. It's just not a good fit.

Ludwig Von Mises noted, "Whoever wants to see the world governed according to his own ideas must strive for dominion over men's minds.  It is impossible, in the long run, to subject men against their will to a regime that they reject."  That whole freedom and government-according-to-the-Constitution concept should still hold dominion over the American mind; we believe in reinvigorating that liberty by persuasion and through the democratic process.

So there you have it.  Because of freedom, America is the world’s most exceptional country.  Because of an erosion of our freedom we are becoming dangerously unexceptional.  And because greatness and decline are matters of cultural choice, we (cheerily) choose to learn to live free.  So go learn something and enjoy yourselves, you free-minded, unruly proles!

In addition to the blogs in Chalk Talk and In Real Time, you are encouraged to contribute to the conversations via Book Reports and Subs .  Your contributions will add to the discussions and experience and assist in the learning.  Here you can be both mentor and student.  Didactic drolls preferred, sedate sages welcome, all are encouraged.
